about

I watched a trailer for "Escape From New York" and listened to the main theme song by John Carpenter like a thousand times this week. You can tell that the first two chords in the chorus of this song were lifted from that theme song! It's an E minor to a C sus2 chord and it sounds really heroic and dreamy, especially if you put emphasis on the G note in that chord in the harmony.

Since the song's name is "Crystalis", I thought I should include a caterpillar metamorphizing into a chrysalis. As it turns out, forming a cocoon is a lot more violent than I had thought. I included it because I thought it was interesting nonetheless! It almost looks like he's dancing to the beat! How cute!! Almost distracts from the gruesome reality that its body is digesting itself and turning to goo. Thankfully though, at the end of the process a beautiful butterfly emerges, dries its wings, and flies away to pollinate flowers, procreate, and just be darn nice to look at.

Crystalis composed by Alexander Emenheiser, 2020.
